Waterhalls

A STUDENT was left fuming on Wednesday as her university room flooded.

Emily Benge, a first year at Canterbury Christ Church, noticed her burst pipe whilst in the shower that night but could only watch on as the water filled her bathroom and room about 2 inches deep.

The other students in her halls tried desperately to remove any valuables and catch the water before security were called. However, it wasn’t until half an hour later that a plumber arrived, despite one being available on campus. This problem reoccured the following day when the same plumber arrived two hours late.

Miss Benge said: “I was shaking with nerves because I didn’t think we could stop it, I’m really upset that the university weren’t able to fix the problem sooner.”

The room is water damaged, with a sodden carpet and peeling bathroom door but it seems unlikely that the university will replace these or even place Miss Benge in temporary accommodation, she luckily was able to stay with a friend on the night of the leak.

The university declined to comment at this time and Miss Benge has since moved back into her room despite the damage caused and currently with no running water which accommodation services have pledged to have sorted in the next few days.
